Rimadyl Palatable Tablets 50mg
Please note this product requires a written prescription.
Rimadyl 50mg palatable tablets for dogs are a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID), which is used to help manage arthritis in dogs as well as acting as a pain relief for those who suffer from chronic (long-term) or acute (short-term) musculo-skeletal disorders such as sprained muscles.
Rimadyl is also used in a number of other diseases and illnesses to alleviate inflammation and reduce any pain that your dog is suffering from. It is often used as a post-operative pain relief to help reduce any pain and discomfort.
Each flavoured Rimadyl tablet contains 50mg of the active ingredient Carprofen which acts to achieve pain relief and reduce inflammation. Each Rimadyl 50mg tablet is brown, square and scored to make dividing the tablet easy so you can accurately dose your dog. It is an oral medication which is easy to give and should be administered with or after food. It is taken willingly by most dogs. It is usually given once daily.
In osteoarthritis, in vitro studies have demonstrated that carprofen can increase the production of proteoglycans from chondrocytes (cartilage cells) in arthritic cartilage. This slows down the rate of degeneration of the cartilage matrix, helping to reduce the speed of cartilage loss.
Special Instructions & Dose
The dose of Rimadyl to be administered will be advised by your vet. In general, the recommended guidelines are an initial dose of 2-4 mg Carprofen per kg body weight daily. This can be given as a single dose or split into two doses. Depending on your dog’s clinical response the dose may be reduced to 2 mg carprofen/kg/day given as a single dose. If on long term Rimadyl treatment, it is important that your dog is under veterinary supervision and reviewed on a regular basis.
Do not use Rimadyl tablets in pregnant or lactating bitches, dogs less than 6 weeks old, or dogs suffering from gastrointestinal disorders, impaired kidney, heart or liver function.
If vomiting or diarrhoea occurs as a side effect of Rimadyl during treatment then consult your vet.
Do not use in cats.
Do not exceed the Rimadyl dose advised by your vet, and do not administer alongside other NSAIDs (such as meloxicam or firocoxib) at the same time.
Do not administer to dogs with a known hypersensitivity to carprofen.
Avoid use in dehydrated dogs.
Rimadyl tablets should not be used in dogs suffering from cardiac, liver or kidney disease, or those at higher risk of developing gastro-intestinal ulceration or bleeding although experimental and clinical evidence suggests that the incidence of gastro-intestinal tract ulceration in dogs treated with carprofen is rare, and only occurs at dosages well above the recommended therapeutic dose.
Use in dogs less than 6 weeks of age may involve additional risk.
The absence of any specific studies in pregnant bitches means use should be avoided where possible.
It is important to note that Rimadyl tablets should not be used on a long-term basis in cats.
