Fortekor 2.5mg tablets for dogs are a flavoured light brown tablet which are used to treat canine congestive heart failure in dogs weighing 2.5 - 10kgs. Each beige tablet contains 2.5mg of benazepril hydrochloride and is scored on both sides to help split them if the dose rate requires that they are split.
Fortekor works by decreasing the blood pressure and volume load on your dog's heart by reducing the constriction of both arteries and veins. By cutting down this pressure the heart is able to function better to provide oxygen to the internal organs of your dog.
Fortekor 2.5mg tablets are also palatable to help aid administration although they can be given with food unless you are advised otherwise by your veterinary surgeon. Fortekor Flavour 2.5mg tablets are flavoured and are taken voluntarily by most dogs.
It is usually recommended that Fortekor is given orally once daily, with or without food. The duration of treatment is unlimited but should be given as recommended by your Veterinary Surgeon.
Fortekor Flavoured tablets are also available as 5mg and 20mg tablets to suit other breeds of dog. Fortekor is often given alongside products such as Vetmedin, Frusemide and Prilactone. These products can be found in our Heart & Respiratory section on our website.
Fortekor is also available as Fortekor Plus Tablets which contain Pimobendan (the active ingredient in Vetmedin).
Non-Prescription supplements can also be beneficial to animals with cardiovascular health and inflammatory disease.
Fortekor 2.5mg tablets can also be used to treat chronic kidney disease in cats as it improves blood flow to the kidneys.
Renal failure is very common in older cats. Fortekor works by reducing the protein loss in urine and lowers the blood pressure. Fortekor has shown to greatly improve the quality of life and survival time of cats suffering with kidney disease.
It is often recommended to use a renal supplement with cats suffering with Kidney disease, such as Ipakitine and Kaminox.
