Epiphen 30mg contains 30mg of the active ingredient phenobarbitone. It is an antiepileptic medication used for the treatment and control of epilepsy in dogs and cats.
Epiphen is used to reduce the frequency and / or severity of seizures and fits.
Also known as phenobarbital tablets, Epiphen is presented as White, circular biconvex tablets plain on both sides containing 30 mg phenobarbital.
Special Instructions & Dose
Usually given orally twice daily, 12 hours apart. The required dosage will differ to some extent between individuals and with the nature and severity of the disorder.
The full effect of the medication may not be apparent for 2 weeks.
Some patients may show drowsiness initially and/or an increase in appetite.
This drug can cause liver damage long term – blood tests are recommended periodically to monitor the liver and to monitor levels of Epiphen in the bloodstream.
The effectiveness of treatment will also be monitored by clinical signs i.e. a reduction in the seizures / fits your dog is having.
Medication is lifelong once started; do not stop the medication suddenly, as this can precipitate seizures.

Epiphen is registered as a Schedule 3 Controlled Drug under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001, so prescriptions for Epiphen must fulfil all these regulations.
Prescriptions are only valid for 28 days, repeats are not allowed and if shown the prescription is invalid.
Prescriptions for Epiphen must be written by UK registered vets only.
The prescription can only be dispensed from once within 28 days of the signing date.
Only the original prescription can be dispensed from and must be posted to us.
