Metacam oral suspension for horses is a Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug (NSAID), which is used to help manage arthritis in horses as well as acting as a pain relief for those who suffer from chronic (long-term) or acute (short-term) musculo-skeletal disorders such as sprained muscles. Metacam suspension for horses is also used in a number of other diseases and illnesses to alleviate inflammation and reduce any pain that your horse is suffering from. It is often used as a post-operative pain relief to help reduce any pain and discomfort.
Metacam is a yellowish oral suspension which contains the active ingredient Meloxicam in the form of a tasty liquid, avoiding the need to give tablets. Metacam suspension is easy to give and should be administered directly into the horse’s mouth or with a small amount food before a main meal (unless otherwise advised by your veterinary surgeon). A syringe is provided to dose your horse in kilograms according to its bodyweight. Metacam is usually given once daily and an improvement is normally seen within the first 3-4 days of starting treatment.
Ideally, Metacam suspension for horses should be used alongside a Joint Supplement that contains glucosamine to further help support the joints and the cartilage.
