What is Metacam?

Metacam is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim, a family-owned pharmaceutical company with decades worth of experience and innovation in human and animal health. The active ingredient in the anti-inflammatory drug, Metacam, is Meloxicam, which was developed and then patented by Boehringer Ingelheim in 1977 and is now one of the most popular medicines in the UK to treat arthritis in dogs and cats. Today, Metacam for dogs and cats is available as an oral suspension for cats, dogs, guinea pigs and horses, and as a chewable tablet for dogs.

What is Metacam Used For?

Metacam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and painkiller used to treat both long and short-term pain in pets, such as arthritis or an injury. The oral suspension has a palatable honey flavour to help with oral administration and the chewable Metacam tablets for dogs have a meaty flavour for those fussy eaters.

Please note, Metacam is a prescription-only medication for animals and should only be given to your pet following an official vet diagnosis and by following your vet’s advice. Visit our prescription page for more information about ordering prescription medications with us.
