Cosequin for cats is a joint supplement designed to help aid the mobility in cats.
The clinically proven combination of Glucosamine hydrochloride, Gelatine, Magnesium stearate and Chondroitin sulphate used in the products help support and maintain joint function, especially in the older animal or those that suffer with osteoarthritis. Glucosamine is an amino sugar that creates and stimulates new cartilage growth.
Cosequin maintains the cartilage along with other joint structures such as tendons, ligaments and joint fluid. Chondroitin attaches itself to collagen for tensile strength and control of water content. It attracts fluid to the cartilage molecules which is vital as it helps to nourish and lubricate joints, as well as absorbing shock.
Apart from joints, Cosequin cat can also help if your cat suffers from bladder problems. The inner lining of a cat’s bladder is protected by a mucous layer, which contains Glycosaminoglycans such as chondroitin sulphate. Chondroitin sulphate makes up a third of this layer and is the same molecule that is found in other tissues, including the cartilage of joints. If this is comprised, then it can lead to the cat suffering with bladder problems.
If your cat is having problems with its bladder, we would recommend visiting your vet as the cause may be more serious. Many underlying factors can contribute to bladder problems and often no cause can be found. If this is the case, Cosequin cat could help manage the problems.
One capsule should be given daily for 15 days. If the problem reoccurs or persists for a longer period, then one capsule should be given daily for a minimum of 30 days. Cosequin can be used for this type of problem long term if needed.
