Accomodation & Bedding for Dogs

Most dog owners like to have their dog live and sleep in their house with them. Some may even sleep on their owner’s bed however boundaries should still be set. In fact it is important that your dog has its own space and time away from its owner so that it can build up its own self-confidence to prevent separation anxiety problems in the future.

Give your dog a comfy dog bed in a set corner or room of the house. Have its food and water bowl close by and have a few dog toys in the bed. The temperament of your dog will play a key part in the material of the bed you select for your dog. Hard plastic beds with a soft base are good for puppies as they tend to chew wicker beds and the stuffing out of padded beds.

If you would like your dog to sleep or exercise in an outdoor kennel this is perfectly acceptable providing that the kennel has been suitably constructed and is safe and secure. Ideally your dog should have separate resting and exercise areas within the kennel with plenty of room for a bed. Some dogs kept in an outside kennel are given shredded paper or straw for bedding. It is personal preference as to what you choose but it must be changed regularly and kept dry.
