Feeding an Adult Cat

Your cat is considered to be adult from twelve months of age. This stage of feeding is called maintenance as there is no significant energy demands regarding growth of bones and joints etc. The energy requirements needed are those for everyday living and repair and replacement. The diet required still needs to be of high quality, complete and nutritionally balanced, providing the correct levels of vitamins, minerals and nutrients required to maintain healthy bones, joints, skin and coat.

Most cats do well on a good quality maintenance food such as

Hills Feline Adult Cat food but there are numerous variations of the adult cat food. For example if your cat has been neutered then it will have a lower daily calorie requirement so may benefit from being on a Neutered Cat formula. If you have an indoor cat which does not exercise outside it may benefit from a diet which is high in indigestible fibre to help ease swallowed hair through the digestive system without forming hair balls. A less active cat or one which is slightly over weight could be fed a Light Diet with a reduced calorie content.

Hills have recently launched a new range called Vet Essentials to address the essenital health needs of adult cats- benefits include;

Dental
